The Three A's
Activate the building alarm system or notify the fire department by calling 999. Or, have someone else do this for you
Assist any persons in immediate danger, or those incapable on their own, to exit the building, without risk to yourself.
Only after these two are completed, should you Attempt to extinguish the fire

You should only fight a fire if:
The fire is small and contained The time to tackle a fire is in the early stages. Once the fire grows and begins to spread exit the building closing as many doors and windows behind you if possible
You are safe from toxic smoke Do not attempt to extinguish the fire if it is producing thick black or chemical smoke. If you are attempting to extinguish a fire outdoors, approach the fire with the wind at your back
You have a means of escape Always attempt to extinguish a fire with a means of escape behind you leaving yourself a means at all times.
Your instincts tell you it's ok If you do not feel comfortable attempting to extinguish a fire, then DON'T. Let the fire service do their job
